Can wine be organic? Well the answer is a resounding yes. Organic wines are made from grapes grown without pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or artificial fertilisers. So much like the organic vegetables you can pick up in the supermarket or a farmers market, the grapes aren't coated with something synthetic to protect them from all the bugs and insects that may blight a vineyard.

The benefits of having the bugs around are plentiful. The soil is unspoiled and full of worms. This enables the roots of the vines to draw up all of the goodness and uniqueness of the terrior, into the grapes, and into the finished product. Much like children not brought up on a diet of antibiotics these vines develop resistance over time and grow strong with great yields.

Biodiversity is encouraged by planting cover crops between the rows of vines. These in turn attract predator insects and birds, who kindly gobble up the little critters who are partial to chomping holes into the lovely ripe grapes. Any sprays that are used are 100% natural.

So there you go. If the idea of Organic wines appeal we have put together a couple of affordable cases to choose from. These taste great and you can gulp away safe in the knowlege that no worms or insects were obliterated in the process. Unless, that is, you include being a bird's petit dejeuner.
